Kansas City Power & Light Works to Preserve Our Natural World

As KCPL works hard to meet the electrical energy needs of its 460,000 customers, the company also works hard to minimize the effects of production on the environment. In the generation, transmission and sale of electrical power, we strive to ensure environmental excellent beyond mere compliance with regulations, whenever possible.

Our Environmental Policy demonstrates our commitment to being responsible stewards of our natural world:

Kansas City Power & Light commits to sound environmental practices that maintain biological diversity and wildlife habitats, and preserve the integrity of our planet, as we provide reliable energy services. We pledge to participate in and contribute to efforts that recognize and promote sound environmental stewardship, to continually seek to understand and address concerns about the environment and strive to improve, protect and conserve beyond the requirements of the law.

Decades ago, KCPL became aware of the consequences generating power can have on our air, water and the many types of life that depend on both. We helped pioneer efforts to reduce the environmental impact of electric generation. Today, our broad-based approach to environmental issues includes:

  • Protecting and improving air quality in the communities we serve.
  • Recycling the by-products of our generation and transmission activities, as well as using recycled materials whenever possible within our company.
  • Offering havens for the birds, fish and animals native to our area.
  • Restoring natural habitats both in our own communities and, in partnership with other utilities, in rainforests around the world.

If you have questions about KCPL's environmental efforts, or if you're interested in visiting one of KCPL's wildlife areas, please contact Environmental Biologist Joe Werner 816-654-1741.
