Lighting Up Your Classroom
Teaching students about wise energy use is the purpose behind KCPL's
middle-school curriculum, "Teen Power: Energized for Life!". This
age-appropriate curriculum helps students become empowered energy-use
investigators as they examine energy use within the school.
Teen Power works best when students work in teams to perform investigations
and brainstorm ideas for wise energy use. The program can be incorporated
into a teacher's everyday curriculum. The topics included span across
middle-school curricula to include virtually every classroom subject.
The topics covered include energy, water, office equipment, lighting,
heating and air conditioning and your building's "envelope" -- the
barrier the structure provides between the indoor and outdoor environments.
Working in partnership with school districts, Kansas City Power
& Light provides all the materials
teachers need to implement Teen Power. If you teach in the greater
Kansas City area or surrounding communities served by KCPL, and
you're interested in finding out more about how Teen Power can be
used in your school district's classrooms, please contact Mark Macken at
816-556-2150.
