Safety Presentations for Teachers -- Lineman Speakers Bureau

Kansas City Power & Light wants to help all children be safe around electricity. That's why our retired linemen -- the workers children often see in KCP&L trucks and on utility poles -- formed the Lineman Speakers Bureau. Linemen know electrical hazards inside and out. And they know the importance of safety around electrical equipment.

The Lineman Speakers Bureau offers electrical safety presentations to elementary schools in areas served by KCP&L. The 60-minute presentation targets specific age groups to help teach safety concepts. Although the preferred group size is 25 to 30 students, the speakers gladly offer more than one presentation a day to accommodate several classrooms.

Lineman Speakers BureauThe presentations include a video and electrical safety demonstrations. Children learn about the electrical equipment they often see in their neighborhoods and homes, and the presenters stress the importance of playing away from power lines, transformers and other potentially dangerous electrical equipment. The speakers provide age-appropriate handouts that reinforce the lessons learned.

If you teach in the greater Kansas City area or surrounding communities served by KCP&L, and you'd like to set up a presentation by the Lineman Speakers Bureau, please contact the Program Coordinator by email.
